What Should You Ask an Event Photographer Before Saying Yes?
Booking an event photographer can feel a bit (or a lot) overwhelming, especially if it’s your first big professional event.
First big professional event? I get it. There’s the agenda, the networking, the presentations… and somehow someone has to photograph it all without tripping over a cable or spilling coffee on a guest.
From my experience, when clients know what to ask, it makes picking the right photographer straightforward. More often than not, it also makes the day itself flow a lot better.
Starting with the Right Expectations
The first thing people almost always ask me (and it’s a good one) is, “What events do you photograph?”
The thing is, events aren’t all the same.
There are Conferences, product launches, awards, networking events, and seminars. I’ve photographed all of them! Probably photographed your cousin’s office party, too.
As every event has its own tempo, spotting things like a speaker freezing mid-sentence or guests sneaking off for a gossip session is what makes the event pictures feel real. It can really help you feel confident about the photographer if they have experience with similar events.
Understanding How I See the Day
Then comes the classic question: “What photography style do you use?”
People out there are not looking for a label. What they want is someone who’ll photograph their event with detailed observation.
My style is pretty simple.
I focus on observation and timing. I capture interactions as they happen, nothing staged.
I like to mix wide shots that show the room with closer shots that capture real engagement.
The idea here is to document the event naturally so the photos feel honest and lively without interrupting anything.
Knowing What Support Looks Like Beyond the Event
The next question I always hear is, "What is included in your event photography packages?"
Well, this isn’t just about hours or photos. It’s about making sure everyone knows what to expect.
I cover the planning, the day itself, and the delivery afterwards. That usually includes:
Pre-event chats.
Aclear understanding of what you want highlighted.
Capturing the main moments and interactions.
A post-event gallery that's easy to share or use.
All this, so it works for your specific event needs.

Asking these questions early isn’t about ticking boxes for your peace of mind. It’s about you feeling confident that I understand your event and can capture it naturally.
Getting clarity upfront usually makes the day flow more smoothly and means the moments you care about are covered without stress.
If this feels like your style, send me a message, and we’ll chat about your event.
