A Day in the Life of a London Event Photographer: Behind the Scenes of a Shoot
Most people see my photographs, love every single one of them, and recall the moments. But what they do not see is the interesting story behind them.
It's been years since I started photography. Every client I have met is different. Every venue is different. Even their expectations from me are different.
Many think that a day in the life of an event photographer is just arriving with the camera and taking some clicks. But very few understand what an event photographer actually does.
Let me just share my experience as a photographer. It's much more interesting than you think.
Before the Event Begins
The day starts before I even reach the venue. First, I invest time in understanding the event, its importance, location, and what matters the most for the client.
Is there an important speech? A moment they are most excited about?
Knowing these details helps me prepare while still leaving space for the unexpected.
My event shoot workflow is not always about following a strict checklist. It is about staying ready and observant. Because most of the time, the best photograph I get is from the unplanned things.
Finding the Moments People Don’t Expect
You know what the best part is? Entering the space before anyone else. This is the time when I look around and understand the space, small details, and how to use them.
Once the event begins its not about clicking more photographs but about watching. I look for natural interactions.
Moments like someone laughing during a conversation, a speaker reacting to the audience or a small moment between colleagues, or a speech full of emotions, all can make the best picture later. This is the most important part of behind-the-scenes event photography that most people don’t know.
When Things Don’t Go According to Plan
Photography events are not all predictable. A day is full of surprises like timing changes, rooms getting crowded, and sometimes the moment you are waiting for so longs happens in seconds.
Working as a London event photographer, you need to adapt quickly to the different conditions. The busy spaces, lighting issues, and tight schedules all make the photography challenging.
But staying calm is always important for capturing in the right way.
The Part I Love Most
The final images are not just a few captures; they remind me of what happened the entire day, and the moments that made the day special.
Looking back at my London event photographer diary, the thing that stands out is always the variety. Be it a corporate event, a celebration, or a private gathering, every event is different in a way and gives a new learning.
